A high-energy broadcast promo designed to energise and launch the “Back to School” season in the Colorado Springs market, featuring the station’s weather-team talent, dynamic motion graphics, branded transitions, and kinetic editing.

The piece was designed to be engaging for TV and social distribution—leveraging rapid cuts, visual punch, and motion-driven effects to capture attention.

Objectives

  • Create a refreshingly bold promo that aligns with the “Back to School” theme—exciting, timely, relevant.

  • Incorporate station talent (weather team) into an animated, branded promo environment to drive awareness and viewer excitement.

  • Use professional video editing and advanced motion-graphics techniques to deliver a broadcast-ready piece, with adaptability for digital/social formats.

  • Deliver a project through your home/remote studio environment, with full timeline, effects, and final export ready for broadcast.

Approach & Process

  1. Concept & Storyboard

    • Developed a shot-list and timeline mapping the “Back to School” vibe: school-motifs, energy, momentum, weather-team presence.

    • Created graphic roughs and style frames for motion-graphic elements (branded text, transitions, overlays).

  2. Video Editing (Adobe Premiere Pro)

    • Imported footage of the weather team and school/back-to-school visuals; used dynamic cuts to set the pace.

  3. Motion Design & Effects (Adobe After Effects)

    • Created custom animated elements: text, graphics, transitions that synchronise with audio and energy of the piece. (You mention using “some interesting effects to give this promo some punch.”)

    • Composited graphics and footage, optimized render settings for fast turnaround and high fidelity.

  4. Delivery & Multi-Platform Ready

    • Delivered final master for broadcast (TV segment) and adapted versions for digital/social (e.g., shorter cut, square/vertical formats).

    • Supplied files with proper formats, naming conventions, and metadata as required by the station.

Key Achievements & Value

  • Delivered a broadcast-ready piece that meets the technical demands of television (colour, timing, brand compliance) plus strong motion graphics to elevate the station’s promo presence.

  • Showcased your dual skill set: clean, efficient video-editing workflow + creative motion-design ability. This positions you well not just for promos but for brand motion work, social clips, commercial spots.

  • Demonstrated ability to bring high energy and visual punch, making the promo stand out during a high-visibility seasonal push (back-to-school). That kind of timing and relevance is valuable to clients.

  • Highlighted your adaptability: working with a broadcast client (KKTV) and delivering for a newsroom/television environment, but also bringing motion graphics flair—making your services appealing to both broadcast and digital-first clients.
